Hedgehog Highway SWF

How to Create a Hedgehog Highway

  1. Start by identifying the location for your hedgehog highway.
  2. Choose suitable materials such as wooden planks, pipes or tunnels to create a safe passage for the hedgehogs. A 13cm hole is plenty.
  3. Ensure that the hedgehog highway is clear of any obstacles or potential dangers such as sharp edges or loose debris.
  4. Monitor the hedgehog highway periodically to check for any damage or blockages that may hinder the hedgehogs from using it.
  5. Make sure any ponds have an exit for hogs.
  6. Remove netting that they can get trapped in.
  7. Spread awareness about the importance of creating hedgehog highways and encourage others to do the same in your community.
  8. Add your name to our Facebook Group here in South Woodham Ferrers, Hedgehog Highway SWF.
  9. Call or drop me a message/email to say hello!

Men's Shed

SWF Men's Shed - and we are away!

What is a Men's Shed?

Hopefully, this will open to the public on the first week of January 2024.

This is a place to go to meet like-minded individuals, and we are starting one here in SWF, but we need YOU!

Have you got experiece in electrics, maybe plumbing, maybe welding? Then we need you NOW!!!! Please give me a call, or if yor'e shy, send a text!

Whatever your interests, from Tech to tea, bikes or buses, Woodworking or Writing, as long as it’s decent and legal, we can consider including it.

Update November 3rd, 2023

The first committee members met on the 23rd of the October.

  • Welcom David as the Chair, and Dudley on Finance, and myself on Admin.
  • We will be officially setting up more positions as we go forward.
  • We will be asking all of you as potential members to join in and tell us what skills you have, and what you would like to see happening within SWF Men's Shed
  • It is hoped that it will be a place that has all the hand tools and machinery needed to make or mend an assortment of items from bird boxes to biscuit bowls and from jukeboxes to jewellery.
  • It will also be somewhere to play board games, card games, or just chat with somebody over tea or coffee rather than watch daytime TV.

Mister Gees Foundation is the drive behind this project and has established premises of approx. 1,400 sq ft of space for the community, here in South Woodham Ferrers.

If you would like to learn more about the venture and how you can take an active part in the planning and set-up of this community hub, then please get in touch by completing your details on the Mister Gees website, or our contact page.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
